- 68% of households own a CA.
- New Zealanders are the worlds greatest cat owners – total feline population around 1.419 million.
- 48% of households own 1 or more cats.
- NZ total canine population – 700,000.
- 29% of households own a dog.
- 10% of NZ households own fish 1.678 that’s an avg of 9 per household.
- 6% of NZ households around 5 birds each.
- The majority of CA are found in urban areas.
- New Zealanders spend around $1583.8 million a year on where CA’s
- $766 million is spent on food, that’s almost 50%
- we spend $358 million a year on Veterinary services
- $166 million on healthcare products.
- Dogs – The avg household would spend $1571 per year caring for their dogs.
- Cats – The avg household would spend $838 per year caring for their cats.
